I'm a fly fishing rookie (an old one at that). One of my sons got me interested in fly fishing last summer, and now I'm hooked (pun intended)!I purchased this book because I live in Michigan and want to know all about the great trout fishing opportunties here.This book is amazing! All the great trout streams and rivers, access points w/ maps, fishing tips, unique characteristics of each stream and river, recommended flies, and more are included.If you want to fish for trout in Michigan, this is a "must have" book.
I've used this to scout out a couple local streams and fished from the spots the authors highlighted. In one case, the spot put me on the fish; in the other case, the conditions weren't good. Either way, I appreciate the detail with which they approach every stream they profiled. My only minor complaint is that the maps could be better with scale, nearby towns indicated (either on the map when needed or with an arrow saying "Ludington — 2 miles" or something like that).
The book is well written but some of the roads given in directions no longer exist. Be aware that if you are using this book in the Upper Peninsula the roads are gravel and tough going.
The book covers all the best trout streams in Michigan. It is divided up by the premier rivers and then by regions of the state. It provides a lot of information including road conditions. I found it very interesting and helpful.
Great guide book. Lots of detail and even a fun read.
