This book is very important to our ever evolving understanding of how our bodies work and how best to care for them.

Being a manual therapist and reading the previous reviews I had my hopes up that I'd finally get a good understanding of the ECM and how it relates to manual therapy. This book doesn't do it. It does have some interesting research that I haven't come across elsewhere and some interesting strands of physiology. A lot of the book seems more directed to acupuncturists, though I have no training in the field so I can't say if this book is valuable in that regard or not. Unfortunately the book doesn't give a clear presentation of the subject matter itself. The text isn't well arranged and at times it is hard to understand why the writer is going on about certain topics. Some of the physiology is reviewed on a quite superficial level whereas others delve so deep into the biochemical and biophysical mechanisms that with my background were hard to comprehend and I have a fairly good understanding of basic physiology. There are a lot of references to different modalities that aren't that well known internationally e.g. neural therapy and these modalities aren't reviewed thoroughly. There is a chapter on neural therapy but it is placed in the last part of the book (while it is discussed on many occasions in the early chapters) and doesn't really offer much understanding to someone who has no previous experience in it. Furthermore before you actually read the book you get the impression that this is Alfred Pischinger's work - it isn't. It most likely relies on groundwork done by Pischinger but in the actual book you get a few measly paragraphs that are actually written by him. Practically all of the book is written by the other writers.

If only American medical doctors could grasp the concept that extracellular matrix (read as connective tissue or myofascia) is a very important body wide communication system that helps regulate processes important to our individual health. This concept could help in diagnosis of disease.

Despite the abundant bibliographic references, which though appropriate and thorough, make for a thicker reading experience, this book is a tour de force that compels one to expand any previous perspectives concerning the meaning of excellent health in the human body. A must for anyone interested in or involved in any healing art.

Dr. Pischinger has solved the mystery of the Traditional chinese medicine"s Acupuncture point.This paves the way for the BioInformation medicines that we we shall see in the near future.

Great book, it actually is more on the data/storage/indexing side than Manning's Information Retrieval (which is more on the NLP side), but that what I like about it, it nicely complements Manning. If you are coming to IR from databases, read this one first, if you are coming from NLP read Manning's first, but read them both (i.e. don't be fooled in thinking you can get away with just getting one and not the other).

This book is very well organized and covers all the issues associated with information retrieval very well. It is not a light book, I plan on going back and reading it again after a first pass. I am reading this book concurrently with Lucene in Action by Michael McCandless and it is cool to see how the theory is applied in practice.Lucene in Action, Second Edition: Covers Apache Lucene 3.0 I am returning to relearn IR and this book is making it fun.

I learned a fair amount from this book. It content is well organized. The discussions are clear and supported by good examples. I found very few typos.My main concern about this book is that it is a bit dated at this point (late 2016). I hope the authors come out with a new edition soon. Still, the basics of the subject have not changed that much, so this fact alone should not discourage you from reading.

I don't really love it, but I'm going to have to defer to other reviewers because I don't think I'm going to make it through. Call if overconfidence in my own abilities, lack of respect for the stated prerequisites, or just plain old age, but this book is too much for me. I guess I thought i could get some snippets of code and make a homemade search engine or something, but it turns out that instead it just brought back memories of the class I dreaded most from my college career: Statistics 201 (or something.like that). Seems very well written from the introductory material that I did make it though, and if I was more mathematically ambitious I would keep plowing on through and surely pick up some good information. Like most of my big, bright ideas, the actual implementation phase is what kills me.

Excellent book, topics are treated well and in a proper order. The bibliografís and exercises are right handed.

This book arranges lots of equations on information retrieval. But I rather think, the book Search Engines Information Retrieval in Practice is a little bit better than this...Not Brilliant.

The authors assume readers will hold a degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering and be familiar with analysis of algorithms and time complexity. Sadly, that is not me. I wouldn't know a probability mass function from a communion wafer; but, I nevertheless found the concepts explained in lucid ways that my lawyer brain could grasp, and the splendid organization allowed me to progress much further than my liberal arts background should allow. This is fine book, and a surprisingly engaging read. If you are not comfortable with such things, you may find the complex equations later in the book to be daunting; but, don't despair. The prose is clear and the examples offered easy to understand. Information retrieval is the lifeboat that will keep us from drowning in a growing sea of data. It's worth the effort to fathom.

I am always looking for additional sources of materials for students to work on particular grammar points that are difficult for them. No one textbook does it all perfectly. So having extra help aids that I have to fine tune the vocabulary is a good means of helping those who need more work on a concept is well done in this text - a win /win for everyone. I loved this book until it went out of print. It was criticized for being too difficult - not true.

After a long time of searching for a book that would actually help me, I found this one: a high school textbook called "C'est Ca!". It's very difficult to find non-textbooks that are designed for intermediate or advanced learners of French, so I decided to look into textbooks. I found that "C'est Ca!" is an excellent title designed for intermediate learners and it's easy to follow."C'est Ca!" is the sister title of "Dis-Moi!" and "Viens Voir!", the ones which, unfortunately, I have not read. However, I can tell you how "C'est Ca!" presents itself.Fifteen chapters comprise the text, each one having its own "theme." For example, Chapter 1 has a theme of the education system of France. The chapter begins with the "Prelude Culturel" (or: cultural opener) that discusses a piece of French culture. For Chapter 1, it discusses (in French, I might add) how difficult the French graduation exam is.In beginning the chapter, many short dialogues are written in a "Contexte Communicatif," which is just a section showing how the new vocabulary for the chapter is used in everyday French. The dialogues generally relate to the theme of the chapter. Several exercises follow to reinforce the new vocabulary.Proceeding is another section that is called "Applications." This section varies from chapter to chapter of being dialogues, or other little things that show the chapter's theme or vocabulary in context. Additionally, questions about the "Applications" follow.For the rest of the chapter, the order can vary from chapter to chapter, but each one is similar in layout. "Explications 1" and "Explications 2" are where the actual 'learning' takes place. New grammatical concepts are laid out followed by the rules and exceptions. They're very easy to read and understand. Several exercises are included with each new grammatical lesson. Additionally, more "Applications" are included to reinforce the lessons.Finally, at the end of the chapter are review exercises of the entire chapter and a page of new vocabulary that should be mastered by the end of the chapter.If you're interested in increasing your French and already have a foundation, "C'est Ca!" is great. It won't get you fluent, but it's still an excellent resource for grammatical review.
