I have purchased the grade 4, 5, and 6 books of Common Core Practice Math from Lumos Learning. They are different from other preparation and practice workbooks for a couple of reasons. First, the answer section not only gives the correct answer from the multiple choice question, but it explains how to work and solve the problem. That is helpful for the student to learn what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong, but also helps the parent be able to work with their child on how to solve the problems (especially if it has been a while since the parent had to work a math problem). Second, the books are not stand alones. Each book purchased has access to a full year of online questions and problems to supplement the book questions. Again, these give explanations and work through for each question. Third, this series helps identify problem areas for the student so extra emphasis and effort can be made in those areas. I highly recommend the books.

Super resource to prepare for PARCC. The book includes a link to online tests, as well as provides information on getting the free app. In other words, the student has multiple ways to study and review and get feedback. The tests are given on computers, which makes the online workbooks especially helpful for practicing in a test environment.

A well-organized book consisting of 5 chapters (each covers different areas).The answers and explanations are provided at the end of each chapter.There are a couple typos that need to be corrected.

I got this workbook for my son. I believe it has great lessons. They are hard enough to be challenging for him but not too hard to frustrate him. It also comes with online book and app feature. It is very useful. We will continue to use this series as well as recommend them to others.

Perhaps it is better in book form, we have kindle edition. The flow does not work with the answer key, not very user friendly.

In line with 5th grade common core curriculum. I like that my son actually likes practicing math with this workbook.

Gaslight (Crossbreed, #4) by Dannika Dark. Ah, Gaslight, it all makes sense in the end. This is an excellent read and a great addition to the Crossbreed series. I enjoy a book that engages the reader and in the end, makes you think. The general storyline unfolds as Raven works on a vampire trafficking case but there is an underlying influence that is deceptively innocuous. I loved Christian's character in this book. He's always been guarded in the previous Crossbreed books and in Gaslight, we see a more vulnerable side to him. I had a love/hate relationship with Raven this time around. I think though, after reflecting on this, that may have been the author's intent. She's tough but also very young by Breed standards. This doesn't end on a cliffhanger and I feel you could read it as a stand alone but you'd be missing out. If you enjoy the Mageri Series, you'll like this a well.

Seriously love everything she writes! This book was so dang good I couldn’t stop reading it and I can’t wait for more. Her books are action filled without being too busy and they have the best characters....they don’t seem fake. They have real issues we all deal with and give you so many ways of looking at life situations. She reels you in and soon your husband is like are you coming up for air? Nope! Her world is so real it immerses you in it. I’m not so great with words but you will fall in love with her writing style and all the flawed beautiful characters.

Well she did it again. When a favorite author brings out a new book, it’s difficult sometimes to be unbiased, but then they wouldn’t be a favorite author if she/he weren’t a wonderful storyteller. Dannika Dark is definitely a wonderful storyteller. So yes, she wrote another story that rivaled all of her best work and although I usually stay away from saying this(mostly), I think this one is the best in this series. However, I must qualify this by saying that the previous installment, Deathtrap, is right up there close to Gaslight in that respect.Raven Black is now one of my favorite urban fantasy heroines and has been pretty much from the time book one, Keystone, was released. She’s a half breed, vampire/mage, and takes powers from both sides. She doesn’t have all the powers, but enough to make her lethal. She detests drinking blood and doesn’t really have to, but will in order to heal. She’s had to heal on many occasions since joining Keystone, a clandestine organization used by the Breed higher authority to manage difficult situations of the supernatural kind. Breed is the name for the many supernatural characters that inhabit the world and live side by side humans who remain blissfully unaware. Christian Poe is Raven’s partner and now love interest. He first showed up in Dark’s Mageri series and became a favorite of many readers. Now he’s back, and he’s still the snarky vampire that everyone loved and for me anyway, he has truly become a perfect hero for this series. I wasn’t the big fan others were, but now I am right there with all the Christian fans. He has truly proven himself, especially with this installment. All of the characters that belong to Keystone have become important to each book as well. A couple of mages, a sensor, a gravewalker, two shifters, a chita, a vampire and Raven make up the organization. And are really now, almost family for each other.Each book takes on another case for this motley crew to solve. This time it concerns vampires turning innocents and selling them on the black market. When Raven starts working on cold cases, this one stands out to her and she’s determined to solve it. Little does she know how one case can change a person so much and not necessarily for the good. Christian is in protector mode for most of the book and I enjoyed seeing how much he cares for Raven.This is probably one of the darkest of any of this authors work, although some of her Mageri series was pretty dark as well. Dark was able to both keep me on the edge of my seat, and cause my blood pressure to skyrocket at times. She can write a paranormal thriller to rival any of them out there. The difference with this author’s thrillers is that the characters are so well written that you begin to really care about them, more so than most other books. At least in my case anyway. When that happens, and things go south, she has the ability to make your emotions go haywire. She skillfully tempers that with humor between the other characters interactions. And humor is always appreciated by me! The romance parts don’t hurt either.If you are looking for a paranormal thriller with touches of romance and humor, you can’t go wrong with this book or the whole series. Or anything this author writes. And that’s something I can’t say about that many authors. Highly recommended to adult urban fantasy/paranormal romance fans. Dannika, you're an amazing storyteller. You kept my interest throughout the book. I love the intrigues of all the characters and I can't wait when each of their stories comes to fruition. Most of all, I love Raven and Christian's story, The continuous bickering, bets they made and their subtle flirtation and watching their relationship progressed. I particularly relish when Christian said "If that be the truth, then ruin me, Precious, Ruin me" Love it!!!

This book is beyond amazing. It pulls from every book in the series so far and is filled with so many moments that pull you back into the back story. I look back and remember the days when I couldn’t stand Christian... he has grown as a person over the years. This is why I love Dannika’s books. She makes these people come to life, she developes their lives, their personalities, she lets us see their hopes and dreams and successes and failures. She creates a past and has us looking into their future. I can’t imagin the web of notes she must have to keep! Read this book. Read all her books. Their amazing!!! Escapeing reality into Dannika’s world is the best way to spend your day!

Finally Christian and Raven!!The 4th book in the Crossbread series is gut wrenching. Raven's past finally has some heed way and we learn much about both her vampire and mage sides. This excellent book should be required reading in all of our high schools. It is well-written and contains useful facts and information. Not reading this book is cheating yourself. Over and over throughout history, capitalism has been proven to be the system which makes things best for humans, while all of the various forms of collectivism (communism, socialism, fascism) have proven to be failures, making things worse for most everyone. Even so, we are afflicted with evil people driven by the devil in many media, university, and government school positions pushing collectivism. We can and should put collectivism in the sewer of history, along with absolute monarchies, landed gentry, serfdom, and slavery.

Well written, accurate.

Great insight into the agenda driven politics that only seek to keep people dependent on big government. Pudzer’s writing appears humble and honest. A must read!

There have been a few books out on the Surge now, mostly from the perspective of the NCO on the ground in a specific sector. These are good, gripping tales but leave the reader without the history from a macro perspective. In that sense this book is a refreshing chronicle of an obviously educated man who was also a soldier in the fight on two fronts: Iraq and Washington DC.Written with emotion, we get the facts nonetheless. The advantage of this chronicle is the proximity the author had to the men in charge and the politicians that could at any moment pull the plug on a supreme effort. What I will remember most about this book was how the author helped his superior, General Petraeus prepare a good argument for the Congress on how things were going and why we should continue with the Surge, then along with Ambassador Crocker then spent hours having to listen to members of Congress bash the policy of his Commander in Chief.I thought the conduct of Senator Clinton and Senator Obama were unforgiveable, using all their time allotted to probe these men for answers to assist them in deciding what to do to instead declare the surge a failure. I came away with the sense these people did not really care what the soldiers and diplomats were trying to salvage in Iraq, but just wanted to use their presence to grandstand their own ideas. It was just pathetic to read about that conduct. Judging from what I see on C-Span I don't think it was inaccurate.I drop a star because I thought the book read a little like a Tom Clancy novel; all the soldiers are good, the marriages solid, the fight complex with some allies in unpredictable places. While it was refreshing to see an endorsement of President Bush and reflect on the courage he showed to correct the flawed decision to invade initially, events that have transpired for the other hero in the book, General Petraeus, that bring him back to mere mortal status. He is after all, just a man, but a remarkable man nonetheless.

Excellent book here!! This book will become the history of the surge. It will be a must read for both military officers and Department of State officials. The author was the chief of staff for General Petraeus. He was on the front row for the surge. Other authors reviewed accounts and records of the surge. This author lived the surge at the highest levels. Mr. Mansoor does a superb job of recording that adventure. The time period of the surge comes alive like a Tom Clancy novel.The reader will be put in the inner councils of the Army in Iraq. You will get an understanding of the difficulty of the surge. General Petraeus had to not only navigate dangerous Iraq he had to overcome hazardous Washington too. The author breaks down the event to give a very comprehensive look at the event. You will hear of the operational demands but also how things like internal Iraqi politics contributed or hindered victory. His analysis of Iraqi President Maliki's political work during the surge has the seeds of the current problems Iraq faced. He never quite created a sense of unity among the different groups then.The book also illustrates how staffs support VIPs. I think his stories of how the personal staff to the General operated can have lessons for staffs of large organizations of all types here in the states.

It has often been said that journalism is the first draft of history. But what if that first draft was written not by a journalist but by a soldier-scholar and trained military historian? And what if that same individual had a position that was at the absolute center of the headquarters of the general (David Petraeus) that was, with a lot of help, turning a war around. That is what we, the American public, have the good fortune of having occurred because Peter Mansoor is that soldier-scholar (first in his class at West Point) and trained historian (doctorate in military history from Ohio State). And the fact that he later chose to retire from the Army to accept a position as Chair of the Military History Department at Ohio State rather than be considered for promotion to general officer allows us to read this now rather than ten or more years from now. I base that number on GEN. Eric Shinseki's estimate that the average general officer is a general for about ten years. Had Mansoor become a general he wouldn't be able to write this book until much later because he most likely would still be in the military.This book covers the period of the “surge” of the Iraq War. But unlike Professor Mansoor's earlier, superb book (Baghdad at Sunrise) this is not really a memoir. It is superb history. But I must caution potential readers. It is, by necessity, written in the first person which is not characteristic of most history and that takes a little adjustment. And if you are a political animal you could feel distracted by his calling-out of politicians that play to their political base during congressional hearings. Perhaps that is the soldier (with their almost pathological belief in individual accountability) coming out in the author. I happen to agree with him (for the most part) but others will not. And it is a relatively small part of the book. I address it because such hearings are about the only peek that most people ever get into the personalities of our military leaders. And because of that one can have a visceral reaction.What is important is the even-handed, detailed portrayal of the “Surge”. If you are interested in military history and no matter where you fall on the “wisdom” of the Iraq War, you should read this. It details how strategy and policy are implemented into operational and tactical reality and covers all of the events and personalities, both famous and obscure, that were involved. As an example, then-Colonel Mansoor relates the importance of managing the flow of information to a general in a war zone because there is just so much of it. How even he, as both gatekeeper and “hatchet-man” (General Petraeus' description) rarely had an opportunity to express his personal opinion. That is both a telling admission and explanation.I am tempted to compare it to Albert Speer's Inside the Third Reich but that would be misleading because Speer was never a military man and this is written much more “from the inside” of a military campaign rather than a man trying to justify the fact that he was an enabler of the Nazi War Machine.I purchased the audio book and then the hard cover and found them both terrific.- Don Middleton

Looking back on my years as an advisor to senior Iraqi military and police officers in Baghdad, the chronology provides valuable context to decisions and events we experienced in real time. In the final analysis a spotlight shines on the necessity of getting the strategy right early by understanding the nature of the war, then finding the right General to implement it. It is easy to read between the lines and see how easily defeat can be snatched from victory. A well-written combination of analysis and memoir.
