We decided to spend a week in the Catskills somewhat spontaneously this summer. Knowing little about the area, I found this book and had it in a few days. This book contained more information than many of the trailheads did to help us navigate hikes and there were several trailheads we may have missed if not for the detailed descriptions/directions included. The book was well organized and helped us fit all of the hiking we could in our week long visit. My favorite part about the book is that, despite the detail provided, it is small enough to stick in a hiking pack without being noticeable. I kept the book in my pack the whole trip and used it frequently to reference landmarks, details and maps. I would recommend this book to anyone interested hiking in the area- we had very poor cell and gps signal most of our time in the Catskills, so this guide really saved the day a few times!!
It's a wonderful book with directions (including GPS punch-ins), distance, elevations and proper maps. The trail descriptions are accurate and succinct. Both beginning and serious hikers will find this to be an outstanding purchase.
