I am not thrilled with this Bible. It is NKJV and not an Orthodox translation. The only saving features are some of the study materials, although not all footnotes seem truly Orthodox. This seems more like a Protestant take on Orthodoxy. Some of the added essays are helpful and it is red letter for the words of Christ. But it has an annoying three-column format.Unfortunately, there are not many options for Orthodox Christians when it comes to Bible translations. There really needs to be an organized effort by the Orthodox Churches in America and other English speaking countries to produce an English translation that is truly Orthodox. [I also purchased the Orthodox New Testament (both volumes) put out by the Holy Apostles Convent/Dormition Skete, which purports to be an Orthodox translation. But I haven't used that one enough to comment yet, except to say that one has a nice large font size and so is easy on the eyes.]

The New Kings James Translation is a fine text, attempting to preserve some of the familiarity and beauty of the original King James, but also striving to increase our understanding of the text . . .But this Bible is primarily of interest because it brings the Orthodox understanding of scripture into such full accord . . . With a full introduction outlining the Orthdox view of scripture, additional articles and notes, this text helps to illuminate the Orthodox mind and perspective, as well as provide insight into the liturgy, sacraments and theology of the Orthodox Church.

The very best New Testament for the Orthodox believer. The print is easy to read. There are beautiful icon illustrations throughout. There are a multitude of Illuminating notes and explanations on the meaning of passages that are not always self-evident. In short, I absolutely LOVE this New Testament Bible. I am sorry that is currently out of print, and I hope the publisher decides to reprint it at some point. Even though there is now a complete Old and New Testament (which I also have and recommend), I spend much more time reading only the New Testament and so this volume is easier to hold and manage.

The study notes, icon reproductions, maps and the section containing morning and evening Orthodox prayers makes this a must-have Bible for any Orthodox Christian who wants to delve deeper into his/her faith, as interpreted by the early Church fathers and mothers.

This happens to be the first English study Bible that offers study aids written from the Orthodox perspective. This Orthodox Study Bible is published by Thomas Nelson, it uses the New King James Version (NKJV and KJV are the versions most often found and approved by the Orthodox churches in the US) and it includes the New Testament 27 books along with the Psalms.Side Note: the Psalms are numbered according to the Masoretic text but after Psalm 9 (which is where the numerical divergence begins between the Septuagint-LXX and the Masoretic text) a footnote shows the Septuagint number for each subsequent psalm.This study Bible project is the brainchild of Fr. As a Christian-unity minded Protestant I appreciate all the special features of this study-Bible that makes it so Orthodox.The study Bible starts with a section on The Bible and the Orthodox Church: The Church Fathers Speak, The Bible and Orthodox Tradition, The Creed and, Some Orthodox Beliefs and Their Biblical Foundation (which deals with topics such as Communion, honoring Mary, place of tradition vs Scripture, icons, saints, and liturgy). Bought Nick's plans as well as the book and made a great kayak. I have significant woodworking skills, experience and equipment. Your success will depend on your experience and skills. Most of the instructions are fairly clear. However I had never done the epoxy and fiberglass work before and found that having access to his on line discussion group was extremely valuable. (as well as his You tube videos). Some processes he demonstrates in the videos have evolved from how he does it in the book. he does not address the use of bungee cords on the kayak surface very well and doesn't deal with fiberglass tunnels. There are a few areas which are confusing, but the on line resources and community help. It is surprising but there are apparently quite a number of people out there who make wooden boats either for a living or who make many of these and have been doing it a long time, so they can teach you a lot. I found this especially true in the section on making a paddle. Not sure if you get this access just from buying the book or you have to buy the plans as well.

Awesome read. I feel confident to start, and Ireally understand the process now. I recommend supplementing with Nick's YouTube channel. When I start building I'm going to order complete plans from the website, even though you can technically use the ones in the book. I figure for the time and investment I'll have into this, and since it's my first one, that is a necessary expense to have some reassurance.I'm a beginning woodworker with a modest tool collection. The book only recommends a few critical tools, of which I'll be purchasing higher quality options. I feel like the build will be slow and detailed, but the book makes it seem very doable and rewarding. Check out some wooden kayak pictures online to get the juices flowing!

With all the rave reviews already stated, I add my own.Mr. Schade will break your heart in the very introduction of the book; at this moment you will come to understand the true dedication of this author to his craft (and love for his wife). Then there is a descent into the inner secrets of this craft that he loves. As an accomplished gymnast, he will certainly make this kayak-building appear easy, almost too easy, and yet the details are in place to convince you that, yes, you can do it yourself.You have to pinch yourself to bring yourself back to the reality that you will spend many hours building this kayak, that it will cost you quite a bit, and that the process is not as easy as it looks. Then stop pinching yourself and start planning; the reality is that you can do it!There are a few gaps in the details that I had to think my way through, but none of these gaps are intentional. In fact, these opportunities are more exciting than aggravating.This is not the only good resource available for learning the strip-building technique. I am already modifying Mr. Schade's designs to include elements provided elsewhere, as he would even encourage himself. On the other hand, this book is all you need to make a great kayak, and the information in this book is superior to anything that I have seen elsewhere.I would recommend this book even to those who never plan on building a kayak if for no other reason than to appreciate this fine art of shipbuilding.

very informative book. if youre thinking of building a kayak buy this you wont regret it. it has many techniques that can be applied to other strip built projects (canoes, particleboards, whatever you can think of)

the book is great, but the binding is very poor, the first 30 pages have fallen out of the book, most likely there will more to fall out, I have not read past the 48th page, I wish I had a book press, so that a proper binding could save this book, disappointed with the quality of the book, but I really enjoy the book, I wish I could pass this fantastic book to my grandson, but I do not think it will last for me to read.

This is one of those books that'll fill your head with ideas. I've started on the journey of building my own kayak. And it's a lot easier than I thought. The 'science' behind kayak design is discussed as are construction techniques and custom 'fitting'. Even repair and paddle building are dealt with.If you are even just thinking of building a kayak, read or skim through this book. You're going to 'dog-ear' this one for sure.

Very informative book .I bought this book as I am building my first strip built kayak.I am building one of his designs and thought this book would get me up to speed .The author shows a vast amount of knowledge in the subject while not being over technical as its an easy read.
