About the Author

Bill Eppridge was one of the most accomplished photojournalists of the twentieth century. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including National Geographic, Life, and Sports Illustrated. Eppridge received some of the highest honors his profession bestows: the NPPA Joseph A. Sprague Memorial Award (1996), The Missouri School of Journalism Honor Medal (2009), and the Lucie Award for Achievement in Photojournalism (2011). His photographs have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and in other museums around the world. British fashion photographer, publisher, and filmmaker Rankin attained success after co-founding style bible Dazed & Confused—and subsequently fashion titles AnOther and AnOther Man. After developing a taste for film direction, he established Rankin Film Productions. More recently, he returned to magazine publishing with a fresh biannual glossy The Hunger.

The recent 50th anniversary of The Beatles' first trip to the US has allowed fans to revel in those early Beatlemania images we have loved to go through again and again. But unquestionably the biggest treat has been the revelation of the rediscovery of about 3,000 insider professional photographs that have never before been seen by the public. They were shot by renowned photojournalist Bill Eppridge on assignment for Life Magazine. From their February 7th landing at JFK through the next five days at the shrieking fan surrounded Plaza Hotel, Ed Sullivan New York rehearsals, train trip to snowy DC and first live US concert there and back to New York for the Carnegie Hall concert. He shot 90 rolls of film, from which Life published just 4 images, leaving the rest unseen. Until now, with 146 of the best just published in the book "The Beatles: Six Days that Changed the World - February 1964"In today's e-world it may be hard for some to appreciate just how much impact and power the huge printed photos on the weekly cover and glossy paper pages of Life magazine had on the American public in those days. It was those credentials and influence that first got Bill Eppridge unequalled private access to the Beatles over those six hectic days. As the book explains, it was Eppridge's trademark style of not asking celebrities to mug and pose for the cameras that differentiated him from the rest of the mob of photographers shouting for The Beatles attention. And that disappearing into the woodwork to let them be themselves while he quietly shot seems to be what kept him part of the inner circle that whole momentous week.Sadly, Eppridge passed away just before the book was released, though he had worked extensively on it with his wife Adrienne Aurichio, herself a noted professional photo editor for major publications. In the Acknowledgments section at the back of the book, Eppridge praises her editing of the photos as well as the extensive research she undertook to accurately portray the sequence and context of the photos. This book is a truly professional piece of historic photojournalism from start to finish. No Beatles fan should be without it.

This book is a very interesting pictorial of the first 6 days of the Beatles visit to America. There are a lot of great photos and many that I had never seen before. Everything is captioned well to explain where the pictures were taken and some interesting stories to go along with them. It is a really neat accompaniment to the DVD The Beatles First U.S. Visit and you can see the movie makers in the pictures of this book and vice versa. It is a very good book and worth the money.

It is comprehensive, offering multiple photos of over 140 common eye problems that a veterinary worker may encounter. The page layout is incredibly user friendly providing comprehensive disease information in a way that does not overwhelm the reader. The information is also presented with a busy practice in mind! Each disease is introduced in a concise, yet thorough manner. There are a number of high quality photos (approximately four per disease) detailing each condition which I feel allows for a more likely comparison to what a practitioner may see when their patient presents for an evaluation. The number and quality of photos also makes it a useful reference tool for client education because of its user friendly layout. I feel Esson's atlas is a necessity for every veterinary library because it provides information to help identify disease processes, explains potential treatment options, possible treatment/drug side effects, as well as when drugs are contraindicated. It is remarkably innovative and has become an invaluable resource to my workplace.

This book is great for the busy practitioner who wants concise, accurate and up-to-date information on ophthalmic cases. The pictures are very high quality and show the different variations in clinical presentation. I prefer this book to other clinical atlases in that it explains the disease process and treatment recommendations rather than just displaying pictures alone. Great addition to your clinical library!

This clinical atlas is exactly the type of reference for a general practioner of veterinary medicine like myself. This book is meticulously laid out and user friendly. The photos are high quality and the accomodating information of disease process are unlike any clinical atlas for ophthalmology. This is must have for any clinic. This has become a daily resource for myself and technicians alike. Well done.

I cannot speak highly enough about this book. I used it to transition my career from non profit accounting to Government Accounting when I accepted a position at a County division as Chief Fiscal Officer. It is a clear, concise book that gives you a good foundation for Government Accounting. I have purchased 2 copies, one for myself and one for new accountants that I have hired into my department. It is a great reference book.

Helpful book about government accounting. I had to write a ten-page paper on the subject and this was a great find for the purpose.

I'm not sure where he gets the "easy," but it did help. Unfortunately for me, my governmental accounting professor wrote the textbook AND writes the governmental questions for the CPA exam, so asking her to clarify anything doesn't really work. It helped to have things explained in different terms, but I would not call this easy. HOWEVER, that being said, I would recommend this book to anyone studying for the CPA exam who did not take a governmental accounting class.

Not a bad book for a beginning Governmental accounting book. I had no true "accounting" background when I started my job with a government agency, but had done bookkeeping for other businesses using just basics and common sense. It was definately different. This book helps guide you through all the different aspects of governmental accounting. It's very dry reading, but very imformative. You can actually find what you are looking for in the index and go right there and get the info you need quickly. I do recommend it to anyone getting in that type of accounting

About the first half of the book was easier to understand. Then it just stopped making sense probably because of the nature of the topics. Though I was maybe expecting something for "dummies" book. There's not a lot of choices out there to compete, so this might be okay though a textbook might actually be better if you want to understand the more technical side.

I needed a detailed explanation of government accounting in preparation for a civil service exam. I have very little governmental accounting experience and the last class taken on this subject was approx. 30 years ago. The author provides you with the background of governmental accounting, basics of the accounting concepts, fund accounting, financials, reporting entities and other topics. I had many "ah ha" moments as I read this book. I am happy to report that I got an 86 on the test.

The book covers accounting for local, city and state type accounting. I am new to the federal accounting system and was looking for a book to help understand it better. No luck here.

Government accounting i.e. fund accounting is not only a scam but a nightmare, however, this book breaks it down to the core so it's a great companion to anyone either taking a governmental accounting course or someone needing to understand what the heck is going on in bizzaro world on the fly.About 2 years ago I wrote a review on another book (Accounting for Governmental & Nonprofit Entities 14th Edition - Wilson, Kattelus, Reck) which was a total nightmare but this book helped me survive the course with the only A in the class. The book breaks the fund system down into fund categories and how they interrelate with each each other through cycles (how assets, inflows, outflows, and other transactions are presented, recorded, and accounted for in all stages)Good road-map for this accounting mess

Frederick J. Wertz is Professor of Psychology at Fordham University, where he served as department chair, received the Distinguished Teaching Award in the Sciences, and is a member of the Institutional Review Board. His scholarship focuses on the philosophy, methodology, theory, and cultural context of psychology.Kathy Charmaz is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Faculty Writing Program at Sonoma State University. Much of her scholarship has either used or developed grounded theory methods. She has received mentoring and lifetime achievement awards from the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction.Linda M. McMullen is Professor of Psychology at the University of Saskatchewan, where she served as department head and elected faculty member on the Board of Governors. Her research, which is qualitative and discursive in form, focuses on how people use language to do things and on how language shapes, and is shaped by, social and cultural contexts. I learned a LOT about Qualitative Analysis from this book. They took text from one woman's experience with cancer and how it changed her life and analyzed it five different ways. Its a good starter for understanding a subjective view of research for a doctoral dissertation.

This is an extremely helpful book for discovering the nuances between the various approaches to doing qualitative analysis.

This book is an outstanding example of five important variations of methods for doing qualitative research in psychology. It not only explores each in the context of a particular research study, it also then cross-compares and contrasts each with each of the others in very insightful ways. No one learns to dance in a group.This book is very clear and written for someone who knows how to dance.Last, you need to learn amalgamations, i.e., continuity. Learning one step at a time doesn't work. This book will tell you which figure precedes or follows a given figure.

Modern Ballroom Dancing: All the Steps You Need to Get You Dancing is an accurate title for a great little book. A dancer who studies and practices what this offers will indeed be dancing soon. It is good for steps but needs follow up with a coach for body positioning to help make the dancing more comfortable.

I purchased this book to compliment my dance instruction. Being that I take lessons in Japan, I needed a book, in English, which would reinforce and further explain what was being taught to me in class. I have found it a very useful book. However, this is not a book for a beginning dancer! The explanations and footwork patterns are detailed, but if you have no experience with ballroom dancing, the figures and explanations will mean very little to you.Some of the more complicated steps do not have foot diagrams, which would have been helpful. All and all, an excellent book!

This is a good book to summarize all steps for many popular dances. My only problem is it does not have step graph for every steps. Only about half of them are illustrated. One step graph wins thousands of words.

I have both the Victor Silvester book and Alex Moore's ISTD ballroom manual. I personally find the ISTD manual more compact, and a lot better organized. It is a little more expensive than Silvester, and it also has no pictures, but it is much more useful in my opinion.The Victor Silvester book is a ballroom instructor's manual with pictures, and the reader's understanding of the material will be exponentially proportional to his prior experience. That is, the beginners will not find it useful at all, while the intermediate and advanced dancers will be able to learn quite a bit from it. The pictures and figures are more like eye candy, as they are taken from dance competitions. They are not used to illustrate the steps.Although the book covers all ballroom steps from beginner to gold, it doesn't tell you which one is which. Also, it only covers up to latin bronze steps, and does not explain essential concepts such as Cuban motion and samba bounce. Unlike the other manuals, the Victor Silvester book also go over the basic steps for Viennese Waltz and (huh huh ...) disco. These steps are fairly basic. If the user are already at the level at which he can learn from the book, I doubt these steps would be too challenging.Also, a word of warning for the prospective dancers. I have seen (and met) a lot of people who try to learn from the book directly, only to be discouraged by the less than desirable results. What a lot of these books won't tell you, or at least convey effectively, are the fundamental aspects of partnered dancing, such as posture, communication, movement, and body connections. These aspects have to be taught and shown by a qualified instructor, because these points can't simply be put in words and are fundamental to all partnered dancing.

This is a pretty good book for anyone who's currently taking lessons in International-style dancing. It goes through all 10 dances used in International Rhythm and Smooth competition. The author presents about 12 or more variations in each dance. There are foot diagrams for about half the variations. He details the footwork (written), contrary body movement, timing, sway and amount of turn. All of the photos are of competitors at a dance event so they're not helpful if you're trying to learn how any figure looks. I don't think it's a book to buy if you're starting to learn how to dance but if you're already taking lessons, it's a good book to reinforce what you're learning. American-style is not covered at all.

I've been ballroom dancing for quite a while, and I bought this book in order to learn some more dance steps over and beyond the basics. I found the descriptions and diagrams IMPOSSIBLE to understand, and the steps I could figure out ended up being out of place among the steps that I usually dance. I think this book is only good if you're a dance teacher who is used to reading steps in a certain format and can translate them into motion. If you're a beginner, this book will do you NO GOOD!

MODERN BALLROOM DANCING has been valuable to me in improving my skills in those dances with which I was already familiar. The usefulness seemed to have been in direct proportion to what I knew before reading the book. It has not been very helpful in learning new dances.The text includes several dazzling photos of competitive dancers in action.
